A possible GoldenEye 007 remaster, the legendary FPS game announced for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, has been discussed for years. We know that a remake was initially planned for the Xbox 360 and then canceled, but rumors about the latter have been back in force since early 2022. And again, the Xbox version of the GoldenEye 007 remake has reportedly been delayed due to the war in Ukraine.

GoldenEye 007 Remake Allegedly on Hold

Since we got the GoldenEye 007 remake rumors back in January, Microsoft and Rare have been quiet. The latest report comes from Jeff Grubb, who claimed that the war stopped his GoldenEye 007 remaster in response to a tweet. A remake of the iconic Nintendo 64 game is still “in limbo” due to the Ukraine-Russia war, according to Eurogamer and industry insider Jeff Grubb.

Although the remake hasn’t been confirmed, this would seem to support rumors that the game has been nearly finished for some time. “Goldeneye is still in limbo because of the war. 1 v 100’s team lead left Microsoft. I don’t know what that means for the game,” wrote Jeff Grubb on Twitter. We don’t know the connection between the game and the war in Ukraine. Still, we can imagine that the studios responsible for the alleged project were directly faced with the consequences of the Russian invasion or the scenario of the game.

Interestingly, Grubb said that 1 v 100’s team leaders left Microsoft, and he doesn’t know what that means for the game. However, Windows Central claims Jeff Teper is now leading the team. It is worth noting that Jeff Teper isn’t a well-known person in the gaming industry.
