Gloomhaven is coming out of early access – set to release later this year in October. Version 1.0 of the game is hitting Steam sooner rather than later. Gloomhaven initially started out as a tabletop RPG, with Dungeons & Dragons-like gameplay that was severely simplified. Much akin to other tabletop games, players would send out their characters on various campaigns and quests – all of them orchestrated by a dungeon master. Gloomhaven‘s tabletop version is getting a big expansion next year, Frosthaven.

Following the success of the tabletop game, Flaming Fowl Studios and Asmodee Digital teamed up to create a video game version of it. Gloomhaven then started out on Steam as an early access title back in 2019. The game’s 1.0 version will also finally include a full-blown Campaign Mode – along with a host of customization options.

As customary with games taking inspiration from D&D campaigns, the replay value is impressive. Titles such as Divinity Original Sin or Pathfinder can be played again and again for hundreds of hours. It looks like the Gloomhaven developers are confident about their own title’s value for money, too.

One of their Steam Community news posts reads:

Gloomhaven Release Date: Lead Your Mercenaries To Victory In October

Gloomhaven version 1.0’s release date is set as October 20, 2021, on both Steam and GOG. The latter launcher doesn’t have an early access version of the game.

It’s also worth noting that, on Steam, the full game’s price will increase by $10. While the game costs $24.99 for now, the price will go up to $35.99 by October 20. For D&D enthusiasts, it might be worth picking up the game before the said increase takes place. If you aren’t satisfied, you can always make use of Steam’s refund policy, as long as you’ve logged less than two hours into the game.

Gloomhaven is set to release on PC on October 20, 2021.
