The Pokemon Company has officially revealed a brand new Pokemon that will be available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon GO, Gimmighoul! This Pokemon has been teased since it was previously leaked in Pokemon GO two days ago and teased by the Pokemon Company themselves via their “chest” website, which now links to the official Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website.

Gather Coins for the Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

The 21st new Pokemon for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been revealed: Gimmighoul! This mysterious, bug-like creature obsessed with coins has been through quite a hectic ad campaign over the last few days.

Technically, the Pokemon was first revealed in one of the latest Scarlet and Violet trailers but was obscured in the background by the UI of the game’s selfie feature. Back then, it was difficult to make out what it even was, up until about two days ago (from the time of writing this) when the Pokemon GO data mining group PokeMiners leaked the Gimmighoul’s in-game model in Pokemon GO.

The reveal also alludes to Gimmighoul’s role in Pokemon GO, in which it would appear in certain PokeStops to reward players with mysterious coins in a sort of collection event. During this event, Professor Willow would introduce Pokemon GO players to the Jacq from Scarlet and Violet, and the Pokemon would follow players around as they collected coins. Gimmighoul itself was impossible to actually obtain, however.

Then, yesterday, the Pokemon Company posted a Tweet that linked to a website that was simply an image of a chest with a number at the top. Every few hours, the number would change, and the chest would gradually fill with coins until it reached 999, which it finally did today alongside the reveal of Gimmighoul.

Now, we have a much clearer idea of what this Pokemon is thanks to a new video featuring Professor Willow and Jacq overviewing its behavior, a short story about it, another trailer showing it in-game, and the reveal of its two forms: Chest Form and Roaming Form.

Gimmighoul is known as the Coin Chest Pokemon; it is a pure Ghost type, is 1 foot tall, weighs 11 lbs, and has the ability Rattled. In its Chest Form, it hides inside a sturdy chest and uses a strange power to compel people and Pokemon around it to collect coins and fill up its chest.

In its Roaming Form, it seems unable to do this, carries a single coin on its back, and runs when people get too close. The new trailer also teased that some sort of event will take place in 2023 that will link Pokemon Scarlet and Violet with Pokemon GO. It will involve Jacq and Professor Willow devising a plan to help the player catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul.

More information on this event is expected to be provided soon. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to release on November 18, 2022, exclusively for Nintendo Switch exclusive. Players can pre-order the game now to get various in-game rewards and access to special forms.
