American supermodel and television personality, Gigi Hadid, quits Twitter after its mass layoff, saying it’s a ‘cesspool’ of ‘hate & bigotry.’ The 27-year-old beauty made the announcement on Instagram that she deactivated her Twitter account on Friday.

It comes after the new CEO of the social media giant, Elon Musk, laid off almost half of the company’s workforce, including the human rights team. An email was sent to the staff stating that the downsizing was to ensure the company’s success.

Also, the billionaire Tesla CEO has asked that verified Twitter accounts pay a monthly fee of $8 to maintain their badge. Musk’s developments on the social media site have received several reactions.

Gigi Hadid’s decision to quit Twitter is a result of the mass layoff that also affected the Human Rights Team. The model posted Human Rights Counsel Shannon Raj Singh’s layoff tweet alongside her account deactivation announcement.

Gigi Hadid announced she has quit Twitter following Elon Musk takeover:

“Especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be a part of.” pic.twitter.com/NM3LdOd7pn

Gigi Hadid Quits Twitter Due To Human Rights Team Layoff

Twitter’s mass layoff affected the entire Human Rights Team and influenced Gigi Hadid’s decision to quit Twitter. As seen in her post, the model stated that she doesn’t want to be a part of the site.

Then she apologized to her fans, who she loves connecting with. Gigi pointed out that after a decade on Twitter, she can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone anymore.

The Los Angeles-born star isn’t the only celebrity to speak up or react about Elon Musk’s decision since he took over Twitter. Toni Braxton also disclosed that she would be staying away from the site.

Last month, the singer said she was shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech’ she has seen on the platform since its acquisition. She further stated that Hate speech under the veil of ‘free speech’ is unacceptable.

It’s clear the jab was meant for Kanye West, who got his Twitter account handed back to him recently. The rapper has been on the media for anti-Semitism and called the model a ‘privileged Karen.’

Before Gigi Hadid decided to quit Twitter, Shonda Rhimes, Sara Bareilles, and Téa Leoni already made the move in October. Rhimes stated that she wouldn’t hang around for whatever Elon had planned.

Twitter is a great platform that has connected the world in many ways. Musk’s recent decisions about the app are ruffling some shoulders causing celebrities to exit.

Jack Dorsey, the former Twitter CEO, has created a new app called Bluesky. Musk must avoid losing his Twitter folks to Dorsey’s new social media platform.
