Final Fantasy XIV has seen a dramatic rise in popularity over the past 18 months and has repeatedly captivated high-profile players with its engaging storyline and fantastic gameplay. And it looks like Garnt “Gigguk” Maneetapho is the latest victim of FFXIV’s irresistible charm.
Tweeting earlier today, Gigguk worried that he too had fallen under the spell of one of the world’s most popular MMOs. “Oh no, I think I like FFXIV” posted the podcaster and YouTuber.
The game certainly seems to have got its claws into him, as that post was over 13 hours ago at the time of writing. Garnt has not been heard from since.
Garnt, along with CdawgVA and Joey, The Anime Man, hosts the Trash Taste Podcast. Trash Taste Podcast is a podcast based around anime, and Otaku culture framed through the lens of foreigners living and working in Japan. Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular MMOs in Japan and is notoriously popular among anime fans.
While Garnt has fallen for the game’s charms, his co-hosts aren’t so swayed. Joey The Anime Man replied to Garnt’s Tweet, asking, “Is this what it feels like to be a disappointed parent?”
In the past, Final Fantasy XIV’s allure has attracted big names from World of Warcraft and general gaming to the Japanese MMO. Streamers and WoW content creators Rich Campbell and Asmongold made the jump to the game in 2021, bringing a huge new player base for the game. Jesse Cox started the game in 2020, and his 2021 video 15 years of WoW vs 1 year of FFXIV is one of the most viewed videos he’s ever created.
And Final Fantasy XIV seems eager to welcome all comers. Even the official Final Fantasy Twitter replied to Garnt’s Tweet. Despite the fact Garnt hasn’t had time to come up for air to see the reaction to his declaration just yet, he’s sure to receive a warm reception from all the FFXIV fans out there.
