David Prowse was the man who brought Darth Vader to life because of George Lucas and caused millions of people across the world to fear the Dark Side of the Force.
But now, following his death, David Prowse is the subject of mourning by fans, critics, and those who knew him personally. Among them is none other than the man behind Star Wars – George Lucas himself.
The 76-year-old filmmaker reminisced about Prowse in a statement for The Hollywood Reporter.
“David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. May he rest in peace,” the director concluded.
But it wasn’t just George Lucas who mourned the English bodybuilder’s death. On Twitter, Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker himself, had some kind words to share about his former co-star:

While James Earl Jones provided Darth Vader’s iconic voice, David Prowse is responsible for the villain’s large intimidating frame. He can be seen in the famous black suit throughout the original Star Wars films. Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villains in popular culture.
As well as Star Wars, Prowse featured in A Clockwork Orange as Julian. He also acted in episodes of Doctor Who and Space 1999 as a minotaur and creature, respectively.
Prowse died of COVID-19 at a London hospital on November 28, 2020. He was described by his daughter Rachel, 50, that was “a sweet, kind and generous man.”
