Genshin Impact’s new five-star DPS character Yoimiya hasn’t made much of an impression with a large part of the game’s player base.

The fiery archer was a hotly anticipated character, releasing a couple of weeks after the launch of update 2.0. The five-star DPS had an interesting design, a perceived cheerful personality, as well as some flashy moves that got players excited. Not everything went as planned, however. It didn’t take too long for many to realize that several aspects of Yoimiya’s gameplay didn’t feel quite right. Redditor PartyConfetti has concocted a lengthy, detailed post on the game’s subreddit that discusses the reasons why the character needs to be fixed.

Genshin Impact’s Yoimiya: Clunky And Unsatisfying To Pilot

The primary issue seems to be related to the inaccuracy of her basic attacks, which tend to miss their target a little too often. The character’s strongest attacks happen at the end of her basic attack combo. With her being an archer, she needs to stand still while performing her string of attacks: difficult to do so, when you’re often required to dodge about. This often leads to broken combos and a growing sense of frustration.

Her burst attack is perceived as being equally clunky: locking onto a target when initiating it, means that you cannot change targets after starting the cast. If your target happens to move away from the area, your entire attack misses – even if there are other enemies in the area. Other complaints include her general lack of synergy with artifacts. Redditor Ayatori made another elaborate post, reflecting PartyConfetti’s own thoughts while suggesting that the developers were turning a blind eye to some basic design flaws.

Complaints aren’t only being voiced out in the West. Over on the Chinese social media website Weibo, there are thousands more discussing similar issues surrounding Yoimiya’s balance. There have even been calls for players to protest during the Genshin Impact 2.1 live stream – but miHoYo isn’t particularly well known for responding to such criticisms directly.

Zhongli-Style Comeback?

Perhaps Genshin Impact players can turn towards what happened to Zhongli: a five-star DPS character that fans had highly anticipated as well, who turned out to be exceptionally weak at launch. With the large amounts of complaints directed towards the developers, Zhongli ended up receiving significant buffs – which have then made him a staple among the game’s strongest characters.

A similar turnaround isn’t completely out of the question concerning Genshin Imapact’s Yoimiya. For now, however, we can still keep wondering as to why fire archers are cursed with mediocrity in this game.
