A Genshin Impact leaker called @Genshin_Intel recently shared an interesting snippet on Twitter, which seems to be dialogue talking about the nation of justice, Fontaine. According to the leak, Fontaine is a two-faced nation, where it’s a most convenient place to live for some, but a place of grief and disappointment for others.
Over the course of Genshin Impact’s storyline, Fontaine has been mentioned on a few occasions. It’s highly regarded as a technologically-advanced nation where the Kamera was invented. Its residents can also enjoy the cinema and modern music, such as rock ’n’ roll, both of which also originated in the nation.
However, the story trailer paints a different picture of Fontaine, which is ruled by an Archon obsessed with justice. The heart of the nation is the Court of Fontaine, which judges everyone’s sins—including those that can’t be judged by the gods. This system is dictated by the Hydro Archon’s ideals, which not everyone believes in—hence why the Oceanids left the nation.
As Fontaine is presumed to be inspired by France in the early 20th century, some players believe that the leaked dialogue could be a reference to Paris syndrome, which describes the massive disappointment that tourists feel after discovering that the highly-romanticized city isn’t as glamorous as what the media makes it out to be. From the presence of slums to injustice, from loopholes in the law to the possibility of a revolution to overthrow the Hydro Archon, the leak has inspired various speculations about what the nation of justice could entail.
For now, little is known about Fontaine, which is expected to be the next nation to release after Sumeru. However, leaked events that are believed to come in Version 2.7 could drop various hints about Fontaine’s environment and lore.
