Genshin Impact is loaded with monsters to slay, quests to conquer, and collectibles to find. But in the land of Teyvat, there’s more in the world than just those regular old things. Scattered around Teyvat, there are shrines. In particular, the Shrines of Depths are just some of the treasures that Teyvat holds. However, you won’t be able to just walk straight in. These Shrines of Depths are locked tight behind barriers. But don’t you worry. The key to unlocking these shrines only requires you to read ahead.
How to Open a Shrine of Depths in Genshin Impact
To unlock any of the Shrines of Depths in Genshin Impact, you are going to need a Shrine of Depth key. These keys can be obtained by completing certain world quests, namely the Archon Questline, or Abyssal Domains. They can also be rewards from specific NPC quests or daily commissions. All these opportunities unlock once you reach Adventure Rank 12. Once you have one of these keys, you can bring those barriers down and get all the luxurious goodies inside.
You’ll have an easier time getting the keys from Genshin Impact’s NPCs and the world questlines than you would from the Abyssal Domains. Think of the Abyssal Domains as a standard dungeon you’d find in any MMO. Whenever you finish them, there is a chance to get the keys as a reward. But as the rewards change daily, getting a key is more about luck than anything else.

It should be prudent to know that as there are two regions in Genshin Impact —Mondstadt and Liyue—each region has a specific key. Depending on which keys you have, you won’t be able to use a Mondstadt key on a shrine located in the Liyue region and vice versa. However, with one of these keys, you have access to all the goodies inside. The rewards available can range from Primogems, Sigils, experience, weapons, and other valuable loot.
