Genshin Impact is a popular title by miHoYo. While currently limited to a handful of platforms, it still maintains a cult following. And some might feel more passionate than others about the title. But rarely, some take that passion a bit too far.

Man Arrested After Threats at miHoYo HQ

A man is currently in custody for threatening miHoYo employees. Reports say that the suspect arrived at the Genshin Impact developer HQ. And upon doing so, brandished a knife. The event in question took place in Shanghai, China where the company is based. The man’s motivation for wanting to enact violence on others? Honkai Impact 3rd‘s Global Anniversary event was canceled.

The reasoning behind this exact situation being the tipping point for the man is unknown, but it is sadly not the first time the developer has suffered harassment (even if other situations were not as extreme). The company has received other death threats, but the individual in custody was the only one to take it so far. While unfortunate, it’s not uncommon to see such behavior. Even the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 have had to deal with death threats from members of the gaming community.

The anger towards Genshin Impact developers is quite confusing. It was an event the game was receiving outside the China region. But gamers in the region have received exclusives that were not released globally. Many understand being upset with developers about certain issues. But, miHoYo, like others, is a company that employs many people. And their work is quite stressful. Having these sorts of things occur, on top of all that, doesn’t help in the slightest. At the end of the day, we’re just glad no miHoYo employees was hurt in this act of violence.
