After debuting in the Marvel Universe 30 years ago, Genis-Vell is making a return. The superhero, originally called Legacy, debuted in 1988 in Silver Surfer Annual #6. From there, the son of the original Captain Marvel went on to develop a cult following. The prodigal son starred in a number of classic stories before fading away. Now, he is making a triumphant return in Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel.

Who is Genis-Vell?

Genis-Vell came into the Marvel Universe as the son of Captain Marvel. He emerged to take his late father’s place. As such, he spent issue after issue putting his life on the line. Later on, in the Captain Marvel volumes, writer Peter David gave the prodigal son more of a purpose and place within the world of heroes.

However, Genis-Vell, and the human body he shared with Rick Jones, died. After that, Genis-Vell became nothing more than a memory. A new Captain Marvel is already established in the Marvel Universe and MCU. There is no indication that the son of Captain Marvel would return. At least until now.
