Avalanche Studios, the folks behind the Just Cause series and the recent Mad Max game, have unveiled their newest title. Generation Zero will see you and up to three friends taking on a robot horde.

Not much is known about the game at this moment, but we do have the trailer above to look at! The game will be set in the 80’s, in Sweden!

I am quite interested in the setting. Games that are actually set in recent times on this planet seem to revolve around a few limited locations. Tearing things up in the beautiful Swedish countryside should prove to be some fun.

Experience an explosive game of cat and mouse set in a vast open world. In this reimagining of 1980’s Sweden hostile machines have invaded the serene countryside, and you need to fight back! Go it alone, or team-up with up to three of your friends in seamless co-op multiplayer. By utilizing battle tested guerilla tactics, you’ll be able to lure, cripple, or destroy enemies in intense, creative sandbox skirmishes.

This is a busy time for Avalanche. Not only have they shown us Generation Zero, but they are also co-developing the upcoming Rage 2 with id Software. I know other people might be getting a little tired of the aesthetic, but as an 80’s kid I am really hoping for a strong Synthwave soundtrack to go with this game.

I also can’t help but wonder about the combat potential. The option to lure and cripple the robots seems to imply some kind of in game need for parts. It would be very cool if some kind of upgrade system revolved around trying to take down a robot with minimal damage to be able to scavenge supplies.

That is just me getting ahead of myself though. Safe to say that Generation Zero has my interest. Generation Zero will release some time in 2019.
