General Hospital’s Sonya Eddy died earlier this week, on Monday, December 19. Sonya Eddy died suddenly at the age of 55. There was no information regarding the cause when her death was first announced. However, on December 20, her friend and fellow actress Octavia Spencer only shared a photo of Sonya via her Instagram page to announce her passing. Sonya Eddy Died From An Internal Infection
After it was announced that Sonya had passed on December 20, it was later revealed by Sonya’s friend, Tyler Ford, that she died due to an internal infection. The internal infection was due to an earlier surgery on December 9. After the surgery, the General Hospital star was discharged on December 11.

However, she was admitted to the hospital again after four days due to a strange ailment. Tyler reported that Sonya’s doctors discovered she contracted an “uncontainable” infection. Sadly, Sonya Eddy died in the hospital on Monday night after being placed on life support.
Sonya Was A Real Life Nurse
In 2006, Sonya debuted on the popular ABC show and continued to play a part in it until her death. She made appearances on the show in over 540 episodes. Fans of the show may not know, but Sonya, who was born in California, was a real-life registered nurse in addition to playing one in her films. The actress was a loving nurse on screen and in real life. Before Sonya’s death, ABC praised her, referring to her as a tough and compassionate human.
Besides having a role in General Hospital, Sonya Eddy starred in the show’s spinoff, General Hospital: Night Shift. In addition, she starred in other movies and TV shows, including Seinfeld, Patch Adams, Reba, Monk, Joan of Arcadia, CSI, Glee, Castle, and Fresh Off The Boat.
While alive, the former head nurse at General Hospital kept her life private. However, it was claimed that she never married or had any children.
