Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, has revealed Gemma Chan’s Marvel character, Sersi, to be the lead in the new and upcoming movie, Eternals. The Eternals were first part of the comic book series of the same name and were created by writer Jack Kirby. It was announced in 2018 that the live-action movie is in the making as part of Phase 4 of Marvel and will arrive in theatres in 2021.

Gemma Chan, who has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2019 with Captain Marvel, is now set to play a new role in that universe. Eternals has been directed by the recent Academy Award winner, Chloe Zhao. The film also has a star-studded cast, with Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harrington, just to name a few.

The cast of Eternals was announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. According to Feige, a diverse cast has been hired to portray the Eternals, which include Marvel Studios’ first depiction of an LGBTQ superhero. Chloe Zhao has reportedly been able to add her own style to the directing of the film and has filmed more on location, unlike previous movies from the studio.

Gemma Chan’s character Sersi is revealed to be an empathetic character who can manipulate matter. Eternals also stars deaf actor Lauren Ridloff, who plays Makkari in the movie. Makkari will be the first deaf character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although unclear on how the Eternals fit in the rest of the Marvel Universe, the comics show that their backstory is tied to Thanos.

Phase 4 of the MCU also includes Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang Chi: The Legend Of Ten Rings, Thor: Love And Thunder among many other movies and TV series.

Eternals is scheduled to release on November 5, 2021, after many rescheduled dates, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Will you be watching? Let us know!
