At E3 2018, Microsoft revealed that Gears of War would be going somewhere it has never been before. That’s right, Gears of War is returning to the battlefield in a way that many could only expect. Instead of Gears 6 launching in 2020, Gears Tactics will launch on April 28th, 2020. Gears Tactics is a turn-based strategy game that takes place on Sera. The game takes place twelve years before the events of the original Gears of War. Some key characters from the Gears of War Franchise will be present in Gears Tactics. Some franchise favorites such as Richard Prescott, Augustus Cole, and Marcus Fenix will reprise their roles in an all-new story.
In February 2020, former Coalition head, Rod Fergusson, announced that he would be departing The Coalition to join Blizzard. At Blizzard, Fergusson will help to produce and develop Diablo 4 and other games. Despite his departure, Fergusson asked his followers to still support the franchise despite his departure. In his departure tweet, he reminded his followers to support Gears Tactics when the game official releases. Based on gameplay already released, Gears Tactics will play more like XCOM compared to Halo Wars.
