The Gears of War movie is in the works with a new writer at the helm. Marcus Fenix and his squad of C.O.G. soldiers are on the way to the big screen. Reports say the film found its scriptwriter in F. Scott Frazier.
According to the website, The Wrap, screenwriter F. Scott Frazier is set to write Universal’s adaptation of the Gears of War games. The website goes on to say it got the information from those who know about the film. But did not go into detail on who or what it will cover. Frazier is known for his work on films such as Collide and xXx Return of Xander Cage.
Universal Pictures announced the bought the rights for a feature-length film set in the Gears world back in 2016. The Xbox games tell the story of Coalition of Ordered Government soldier or C.O.G., Marcus Fenix and their fight against the Locust Horde; a group of underground alien creatures bent on destroying humanity.
The first Gears game released on November 7th, 2006 for the Xbox 360. Microsoft released a sequel titled Gears of War 2 in 2008, and Gears of War 3 in 2011. The prequel, Gears of War: Judgement hit shelves in 2013 but took a different turn and followed Fenix’s squad member, Damon Baird. The final game to be released was Gears of War 4 in 2016. The fifth and next title is on the way in 2019. Along with the release of the adorable mobile game Gears Pop and Gears Tactics.
Co-creator of the Gears series, Rod Fergusson, will produce the upcoming untitled movie, along with Dylan Clark. Coalition is the developer of the series of games. The lore spans four core games, several books, and comics, but has yet to be adapted into a movie. A release date for the Gears of War film is not known as of yet.
