Gears 5 is set to release on Steam on top of Windows 10 computers when the game releases this September. As of Inside Xbox at Gamescom 2019, Microsoft released information that the newest game in the series will be coming to PC through Windows Store and Steam. Gears 5 was originally announced for release on Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 computers. The news the game is coming to Steam made its way thanks to Phil Spencer. Spencer says Xbox is looking to get more great games onto PC and that means more than Windows 10 devices. Xbox previously allowed for the Halo: Master Chief Collection to be played on Steam a few months back. It was the start of Microsoft’s initiative to bring more Xbox games to PC.

The Windows Store is still selling Xbox titles for PC but will be just as much of a focus as sending their games to the Steam store too. Gears 5 is already listed on the Steam store for a release date of September 9, even though the game does arrive on September 10 for all other systems the game is available on. Gears 5 makes an earlier appearance through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Game Pass Ultimate gives players access to the game a few days early.

With the game on PC much like with Gears of War 4, there will be many customization options for Gears 5. According to the website for the game, Gears 5 will be able to customize textures, shadows, details, environments, and many other visuals from the game. Along with that, cross-play is noted on the website for players playing on Windows 10 and Xbox One. It doesn’t necessarily say anything about cross-play with players who download the game on Steam, but that very well could be an option. The game is currently listed to be released on September 9 on Steam and September 10 officially for Xbox One and Windows 10.
