The overall response to The Coalition’s Gears 5 has been mostly positive so far from critics and fans alike. The game currently has an 85 score on Metacritic and stands at an 8.7 user score. During its launch week, over 3 million players returned to the Gears of War universe with this latest installment of the franchise, making it the biggest game launch of this console generation for Xbox Game Studios.

Now, to be fair, the fact that you can play this on Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has greatly helped these numbers. But, being able to play a huge AAA title with an Xbox Game Pass subscription at no additional cost is pretty cool.

It also helps that the general consensus echoes sentiments that Gears 5 is just an excellent game all-around. IGN loved Gears 5, giving it a 9 out of 10 overall. The same can be said for GamesRadar, who gave the game 4 out of 5 stars.

As for what we thought of Gears 5 here at The Nerd Stash? Our very own Oliver VanDervoort gave it 4 out of 5 stars, stating:

However, not all was good for Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition during the game’s launch week. Gears 5 was initially riddled with numerous server issues and Xbox Live outages, making it almost impossible to play with your friends online or even in co-op.
