Gears 5 represents some of the best the Gears of War series has to offer. While the multiplayer isn’t my cup of tea, I hear nothing but good things about it consistently. I also loved the Campaign, which truly offers something special. For those still playing, hopefully, the consistent seasonal operations have been a blast for you. With all the new content, I wouldn’t be surprised. Now though, the Gears 5 team is looking to do something a little more traditional for a content update. Gears 5’s upcoming Hivebusters expansion, adding tons of new campaign content, will release on Xbox and PC. It’s the first campaign expansion for a Gears of War game since Gears of War 3.
Gears 5: Hivebusters tells the story of Lahni, Keegan, and Mac, the three Hivebuster crew members from the Escape gamemode. The expansion details their first mission together as part of the secretive Hivebuster program. Known as Scorpio Squad, you’re tasked on a suicide mission to not only detonate a swarm hive but save yourselves and Sera in the process. This three-hour campaign promises a lot as far as lore goes, and should be fitting for those wanting more story content. You can even bring two friends along for the ride if you so desire.
One way they’re changing the formula up in this Gears 5 expansion is through ultimate abilities. You can use and upgrade these throughout your adventures, adding a new level of depth. There are also 16 new achievements for all you completionists out there looking for a reason to come back. That’s not to mention the support for Xbox Series X/S, including improved loading times, quick resume, 4K HDR visuals, and much more.
