Just a day before their PAX East panel, Gearbox has given us our first look at a new Borderlands game. The trailer, titled “Mask of Mayhem”, doesn’t show much at all but it does confirm that Borderlands will be a major part of the studio’s plans at PAX East tomorrow. You can see the full “Mask of Mayhem” trailer down below:
A few weeks ago, Gearbox dropped a cryptic teaser for what fans could expect at their PAX East panel this March. Although it wasn’t a confirmation for a new Borderlands title, many believed that the art style and apocalyptic setting was a dead give-away.

The loot-based RPG hasn’t had a main installment since Borderlands 2, which released back in 2012. Borderlands 2 is widely praised by critics and fans alike, garnering impressive scores on Metacritic across all of its available platforms. Outside of the mainline Borderlands franchise, we also had Tales from the Borderlands and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The first was an episodic game series from Telltale Games and the latter acted as a prequel to Borderlands 2. While The Pre-Sequel may be considered to be apart of the mainline Borderlands games, some fans believe that the game felt like more of an expansion than anything new.
Along with that Tweet above, Gearbox released a description for what fans could expect at their PAX East appearance. Here is that description (courtesy of Polygon):
The Gearbox PAX East panel will take place tomorrow, March 28th, at 2 PM EST.
