Only two days remain in one of the craziest years in this century. While a global pandemic ravaged the world, we’ve found new ways to stay connected. Each year has its own unique trends whether it be RickRolls, Gangnam Style, or the ice bucket challenge. Each year, people look for new and innovative ways to stand out; these trends can be risky or scandalous like the Cinnamon challenge or tide pod challenge. Frontier Communications has looked at the top trends of 2020 and compiled a list. Below we will be covering the Top 20 trends of 2020. To no surprise, it was dominated by a ton of online activities.

Each trend on this list may have spawned due to the global pandemic however each trend looked to unite the world while keeping people safe. Out of the top 20, four trends were specifically gaming related. Ten out of the twenty were pop culture themed with Tiktok controlling another four trends.
The Gaming Trends
Despite releasing in 2018, Among Us dominated 2020 both on YouTube and Twitch. By introducing a free to play version that allowed cross-play with its PC counterpart, they were able to quickly top the charts at a #1 spot. Over 4 billion views, Among Us still dominates YouTube thanks to Corpse, Pokimane, Toast, and others.
Animal Crossings: New Horizons launched on March 20, 2020. The game’s release caused Nintendo Switches around the world to sell out like hotcakes. In a single month, the game sold five million digital copies. Tom Nook approves of all the copies sold.
In August, Mediatonic released Fall Guys on the PlayStation 4 and Steam. After becoming free to PlayStation Plus members, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout sold over 7 million copies on steam and became the number one downloaded game on PS+. Since the game’s release, the game has continued to be a success and is now on Season 3.
Finally, in November, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S were released. Despite both consoles constantly being sold out, the PS5 dominated Google searches with over 4.6 million searches. The PS5 is still a highly sought after item due to its exclusives.
