Developer Naraven Games and All in! Games appeared during this year’s Gamescom to unveil the Gameplay Trailer for Backfirewall (stylized as Backfirewell_). It’s an upcoming first-person puzzler where you play as an update assistant for a phone. In short, you must halt a system update, but not without some trouble along the way. Backfirewall will arrive sometime later this year for the major platforms. Developer Naraven Games and All in! Hack the System with Backfirewall_ by Naraven Games

Players will assume the role of an update assistant who must help out OS9. This chatty operating system is about to be replaced with the inclusion of OS10. But he’s not ready to go just yet. He needs your smarts, timing, and patience to stop the system update. We’ll have to progress through tricky puzzles, utilize cheat codes, and engage in side stories with app characters.

Along the way in this digital journey, we’ll stumble upon some mysterious collectibles. These appear as emails and provide further context into who is the “User” behind the phone. On top of all this, we’ll be treated with satirical humor that wonderfully reminds us of GLaDOS from Portal and The Narrator from The Stanley Parable. We’re thrilled to see more of OS9 and his humor, but feel free to check out the official Gameplay Trailer for Backfirewall right here.

Backfirewall is being developed and polished by Naraven Games, a female-led team established in Lausanne, Switzerland. Backfirewall is their first game, and its publishing is being handled by All in! Games. It’ll launch sometime this year for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. In fact, Steam users can try out the demo for Backfirewall right now, though you only have until September 4, 2022, to download it.

We still have a couple more days for Gamescom 2022! Were there any other announced titles and trailers that are now on your radar? What did you think of the Backfirewall Gameplay Trailer by Naraven Games? Let us know!
