Among the many reveal trailers and gameplay trailers shown off so far at Gamescom this year is the new trailer for Layers of Fears, the upcoming first-person horror game from Bloober Team and Anshar Studios. Layers of Fears is a combined remake of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2. The game’s official website describes this remake as a “first-person psychedelic horror chronicle focused on tense exploration and immersive storytelling.”

This new remake is described as being “built on the foundation” of what came before while at the same time offering players “a surprising new story and gameplay direction.” Also included in this remake is a similar reimagining of the Inheritance DLC from the original game. With the content taken from both previous games and the accompanying DLC, this new entry will likely offer players a decent amount of value for their investment.

A New Coat of Paint…

As with any remake, more technical features like increased graphical fidelity and higher resolution support will be at the heart and center of the experience. The developers have pledged to take full advantage of the benefits associated with “the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5 technology” the game will be built on.

The remake will support “ray tracing, HDR effect, 4K resolution, and make use of the Lumen system to offer the most immersive and visceral horror experience.” Players can expect this newest installment to be “the complete, definitive, and at the same time unpredictable, way to discover the stories of artists enslaved by their obsessions.” The developers tease that players should “prepare for an exquisite horror experience thanks to the expanded plot lines that will cast a new light on the overarching narrative.”

Looking to the Future…

While the Layers of Fears game trailer does an excellent job of teasing both new and existing fans alike, curiously, no release date has yet been set, indicating that players may have to wait some time yet to encounter what lies behind the canvas.
