Here are some of the biggest games coming this second quarter.
The first quarter of 2019 recently ended, and heading into April, we have a whole new quarter full of games to look forward to. The first few months of the year saw the releases of such well-received games as Kingdom Hearts III, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and my personal favorite, The Walking Dead: The Final Season. But the future also has some potentially exciting things in store, so let’s take a look at some of the biggest games set to release over the next few months.
Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit – April 12
Nintendo is finally entering the era of VR gaming (well, actually, their first attempt at VR was the Virtual Boy in 1995, but we don’t talk about that) with the newest Kit in their DIY lineup of Nintendo Labo Kits. With the Labo VR Kit, you’ll be able to do things like shoot aliens, create 3D paintings, and be a bird. Needless to say, this will be a Nintendo Switch-exclusive experience.
Mortal Kombat 11 – April 23
Mortal Kombat is back and the new game is shaping up to be just as brutal as the series has ever been. Many fan-favorite characters will be returning to fight different versions of their selves from different periods of time. Mortal Kombat 11 will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Days Gone – April 26
The first big PlayStation 4 exclusive of the year, Days Gone looks to be an action-packed open-world zombie experience with some interesting new mechanics it is adding to the genre. Add to that a potentially gut-wrenching story and we might have something really cool here.
Life is Strange 2 – Episode 3: Wastelands – May 9
Sean and Daniel’s story continues in the third of five episodes, coming this May. Not much is known yet about the specific circumstances the brothers will find themselves in during the course of this episode, but you can bet that they’ll continue to find themselves in trouble as they continue running from the law. The first two episodes of Life is Strange 2 are currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Rage 2 – May 14
The sequel that no one expected prior to its reveal last year (or prior to its leak, rather) is coming this quarter. Get ready for a bunch of psychotic, over-the-top, colorful murder when the game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Team Sonic Racing – May 21
Originally intended to release late last year, Team Sonic Racing is finally getting released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC almost half-way into this year. We can all ignore the fact that the supposed “fastest thing alive” is racing in a car because the game has a companion animated series that is just delightful.
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth – June 4
The sequel to 2014’s Persona Q is headed to the West just before summer arrives, and this one will feature characters from the critically acclaimed Persona 5. It may also be worth noting that this game, which will be a 3DS exclusive, could very well be the last major release for the handheld console.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled – June 21
If you couldn’t get your racing fill with Team Sonic Racing, then you might be waiting for Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, a remake of the 1999 kart racer Crash Team Racing. This game follows in the footsteps of the Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, which saw remakes of the first three Crash Bandicoot games, but unlike the N. Sane Trilogy, which was a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive before eventually coming to other platforms, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch simultaneously.
Judgment – June 25
This title saw some controversy when one of its Japanese voice actors was recently caught in the middle of a cocaine scandal that saw the game pulled from shelves in Japan. Nevertheless, this Yakuza spin-off is still on track for a Western release this year for PlayStation 4.
Super Mario Maker 2 – June
One of the most popular games released on the Wii U was Super Mario Maker. Unfortunately, due to poor sales of the console, not a ton of people got to play it. However, it was announced earlier this year that a sequel, Super Mario Maker 2, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime this June, so get ready for some more ridiculous fan creations.
