The final season of Game of Thrones is currently in full swing, with the next episode looking to be a huge turning point towards the end of the story. There are just 4 more episodes left before we have to say goodbye to characters we have loved for years, with some of those said characters likely being killed off before the final episode. After that, we will have to make do with watching reruns whilst waiting for any spin-off shows.
One of those spin-offs is no longer coming. Current Game of Thrones writer and co-executive producer, Bryan Cogman, was working on a new show set in the land of Westeros, but alas, that is no more. Mr. Cogman had this to say regarding his show:
While it’s a shame we won’t be seeing this particular series HBO are still actively working on a prequel series under the tentative name of The Long Night. That series will hopefully go some way into filling the void in our lives once Game of Thrones ends. In the meantime we have 4 episodes left of season 8 and a brief synopsis on the spinoff, as follows:
I’m not even sure if we need a prequel to Game of Thrones but I’m excited to see what it brings to the table. Prequel series’ and spin-offs in general often get a bad reception, quite rightly so a lot of the time, but they can be done right. Just look at Better Call Saul, a show that has no right to be as good as it is and one I may even be enjoying more than the original series.
