George R.R Martin fans (and more specifically, Game of Thrones fans) finally have some content after a long hiatus. After the mixed-reviewed and chaotic ending of the original show, images of the new and upcoming series have been released. The Game of Thrones prequel titled House of the Dragon has officially posted its first set of official images.
It is safe to assume from the posted pictures that the story will be taking place at a beach-like setting (while also incorporating the sea into its story and interactive environment).
What These Images Show (And What They Don’t)
This series will take place 300 years before the events of the original Game of Thrones. It will follow members of House Targaryen on the Targaryen civil war (also known as the “Dance of the Dragons”). The series will star Emma D’Arcy, who will play the king’s firstborn child, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Matt Smith (most known for his role in The Crown) will be playing Prince Daemon Targaryen, who is King Viserys’ younger brother and heir to the throne. Rhys Ifans is cast as Hand of the King Otto Hightower, who is in conflict with Daemon. Other cast members include Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Valaryon, who will play the role of a seafaring adventurer.
From these images, however, fans can be sure to expect a classic Game of Thrones vibe from the given storyline, cast members, and the released images. House of Dragon’s original source material book “Fire and Blood” by George R.R Martin has many of the themes as the widely loved show, including dragons, violence, and notorious use of incestual relationships.
As of now, HBO has set House of the Dragon to have a 10 episode run. The tentative date for the show is sometime in 2022. However, there is no ideal timespan during that year to look forward to for this release. The production began on April 26 and followed George R.R. Martin’s newest signing of a five-year deal to create content for HBO and HBO Max. HBO also revealed that the new series would be available to stream on HBO Max at the time of its release.
