The Game of Thrones Targaryen prequel, House of the Dragon, may have begun filming this week if fan photos are any indication. But further photos have revealed a story point in the highly-anticipated HBO series. As reported in Metro, recent photos taken in the filming location of Cornwall, England have depicted the House of Velaryon symbol etched into a stone arch.
Fans of Game of Thrones know that House Valaryon rules the island of Driftmark, the largest island of Blackwater Bay in the crownlands. Sworn to Dragonstone, led by Stannis Baratheon, the House bears the symbol of a silver seahorse on sea-green. A similar symbol is shown on the rock arches in the new photos.
Trucks were also spotted in Penhale Camp near Newhale, Newquay with Warner Bros. labels. Although they are rumored to be related to House of the Dragon’s production, it is currently unconfirmed.
House of the Dragon “tracks the beginning of the end for House Targaryen” many years before Season 1 of Game of Thrones. The series is based on material from Fire & Blood, a 2018 fantasy book by George R. R Martin charting the history of the Targaryens. The ten-episode series is scheduled for release on HBO in 2022, executive produced by Martin, Vince Gerardis, Condal, and Miguel Sapochnik – the latter two are also acting as showrunners. So far, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Touissant, Eve Best, Rhys Ifans and Sonoya Minuzo are confirmed as cast members in the Game of Thrones prequel.
