The Game Development World Championship(GDWC) awards have officially kicked off, with studios worldwide arriving to compete in this year’s event, giving prizes to the best games. Firstly, this year’s winner of the Fan Favorites section, we have the indie game Pureya from the studio Majorariatto.
Developed by the Spanish studio, Pureya is a collection of minigames. Played with just two buttons, it seems like these minigames are simple, but there’s a catch. The buttons will switch randomly from one to the next every ten seconds for a more significant challenge. By avoiding obstacles and collecting as many marbles as possible, players can unlock more minigames, music, and skins.

The four finalists of GDWC are:
Ranked second, Coromon, a JRPG-like monster taming indie game from TRAGsoft studios in the Netherlands. A chance to explore a charming pixel world filled with challenging puzzles, interesting creatures, and titanic bosses as you chase down a mysterious disruption.
Ranked in third place is Scarlet Hollow. Black Tabby Games develop the American dark comedy and horror mystery indie game. The fate of an entire town rests in the hand of players, drawn back to the Appalachian mining for the funeral of your estranged aunt. Now you must solve this dark mystery with hand-drawn art from award-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
And ranked in fourth place, Avian is developed by Royale Monkey studios. The team of students from France brings players an indie game based around a musical instrument. Using the instrument as you travel gives you the power to interact with the vegetation. As the guardian of a long-lost civilization, players must find their way through the infested world to purge it of evil.
Finally, Miko Adventures Puffball ranked fifth, an adventure indie game developed by Coriander Games in Egypt. Players will play the role of Miko, a raccoon who lost his way while wandering through the forest. Discovering a portal, the player and Miko will be transported into another dimension, working together to help Miko find his way home.
Lastly, The Game Development World Championship awards for 2021 are on March 15th-17th. The event will be online only, where fans can watch the awards on Twitch or Youtube. Future announcements, including the finalists for GDWC, are located on the event website.
