To celebrate the third anniversary of Nintendo Switch Online, a backlog of classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles may be added to the online service.
Not only did they confirm the addition of Game Boy games, but it looks like other virtual systems may be down the pipeline. “A datamine of the NES Switch app back in January 2019 tipped the addition of SNES titles to the service before Nintendo made the announcement official. At the time, the datamine also pointed to a couple of other emulators hiding in the code, ready for Nintendo to add further platforms down the line.” And they are promised to be available “really soon”.
As of this writing, there has been no mention of Game Boy Advance games coming to Nintendo Switch Online.
The Game Boy, Nintendo’s first handheld console, first released in 1989, and the Game Boy Color followed in 1998.
Nintendo Switch Online is a membership that allows you to play games online with friends. As of this writing, the online services also gives players access to over 100 NES and SNES games like Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, Star Fox, Metroid, and much, much more. 12 months of the service is priced at $19.99, but family memberships are available for $34.99.
