Although actress Gal Gadot often plays the hero, particularly as Warner Bros’ live action Wonder Woman, her next role appears to be something entirely different. According to a report from Deadline, Gal Gadot is in final negotiations with Disney to play the Evil Queen in an upcoming live action adaptation of Snow White. If the negotiations go well, Gadot’s Evil Queen will face off against Rachel Zegler, who is currently set to play the titular character, Snow White. Leading this new version of the classic fairy tale is its director, Marc Webb. Snow White is expected to begin production sometime next year.
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs animated movie was released by Disney back in 1938. It was the company’s first animated feature and a huge hit for the studio. Without the success of the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it is hard to say whether the Disney company would be what it is today.
According to the report from Deadline, the new, live action Snow White will expand upon the story and music from the original movie. To help ensure this, Disney has attached Benji Pasek and Justin Paul to the project. Pasek and Paul are the Oscar and Tony-winning duo behind recent musicals like La La Land, The Greatest Showmen, and Dear Evan Hansen. Given their songwriting success in past movies, it is likely that Pasek and Paul will deliver incredible music for the upcoming film.
A new, live action of adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs should come as no surprise. Disney has seen significant monetary and some critical success in remaking their popular animated features into live action movies. Disney previously released live action versions of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan. One of the most interesting parts of these new versions has been seeing the actors’ portrayals of iconic Disney characters. Snow White casting Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen will likely be no different.
