Good news, everyone! TinyCo Games has posted online the first trailer of their upcoming Futurama videogame for smartphones. “Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow” puts players in charge of rebuilding the city of New New York, while also delivering packages with Fry and the rest of Planet Express employees. The game will try to be the summer sensation for the fans of the series when it releases in the coming weeks.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow is far from being a cheap production that uses the brand to attract an audience. It’s a fully realized videogame that mixes gameplay traits from different genres: There are city management phases similar to the Sim City games, investigation periods in which we will explore locations like a classic point-and-click adventure, and even turn-based battles in the style of RPGs.
The production has also received the seal of approval and direct collaboration from series creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, and the team of animators from the original series: Rough Draft Studios, which makes Worlds of Tomorrow the most important release from the series in years.
Their involvement really shines in the trailer, which contains all the irony and constant sense of surprise that made the series gather a cult following. The story of the videogame begins with a new invasion of Omicronians, who take advantage from the fact that all New New Yorkers are busy playing the new Hypnotoad videogame on their “android devices.”
From the mind of The Simpson’s creator Matt Groening, Futurama is a comedy series which follows the adventures of Fry, a not-so-smart guy who works delivering pizzas in the year 2000, and who falls on cryogenic sleep by accident. He wakes up in the year 3000 and starts working on the delivering company of his distant-nephew, which is the perfect opportunity for him to travel through the universe meeting the most unusual civilizations.
