Fruits Basket is getting a new reboot, and I couldn’t be more excited. The anime series ended on the 6th volume in December of 2001. Personally, its one of my favorites and I highly recommend reading the manga. However, if you have never read it and are only interested in the anime here is a summary of the manga.

Fruits Basket is about Tohru Honda, a girl who discovers the Sohma family curse. Turns them into their respective zodiac animals when hugged by the opposite sex. After discovering the family curse and no longer having a place to stay, she then lives with the Sohma family and along the way tries to break their curse.  It’s sad that its anime halted due to creative disagreements. Many details in the anime series veered away from the manga giving it negative backlash. All in spite of how popular it had become in such a short time. Many fans stopped watching because it was not adhering to the integrity of the manga.

Moving seventeen years ahead the new anime series reboot will have an all-new cast and all-new creative team. The Fruits Basket Japanese voice cast includes Manaka Iwami as Tohru Honda, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuki Sohma, Yuma Uchida as Kyo Sohma, Yuichi Nakamura as Shigure Sohma.

Funimation will be screening the first two episodes of the Fruits Basket reboot in theaters in March. Tickets are already on sale. Scheduled for a full release sometime in April, the series will feature an all-new staff, Japanese voice cast, and visuals. Yoshihide Ibata is directing the series reboot for TMS Entertainment, Taku Kishimoto as series writer, and Masaru Shindo as character designer.
