KartRider: Drift, a free-to-play kart racing game with crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, announced in October’s PlayStation State of Play that it is now opening its third closed beta registration for PS4 owners. The first and second closed beta periods — which were exclusive to PC and Xbox One players — were previously held on December 2019 and June 2020 respectively. The full game is planned to be launched sometime in 2022. No exact release date has been announced for KartRider: Drift.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, this colorful and arcadey title is the latest entry from the South Korean Nexon‘s PC MMO racing franchise Crazyracing Kartrider that is quite popular in the Asia-Pacific region. Boasting over 380 million registered users worldwide as of May 2020, the series debuted back in 2006 and has also spawned a mobile spin-off for Android and iOS devices called KartRider Rush+.

In the released version, KartRider: Drift will feature at least two different game modes: Item Mode, which plays like Mario Kart where you can pick up random power-ups all over the track; and Speed Mode, which has the power-up replaced with boosters functionality. You can easily find other players through a matchmaking system or play with friends with your own rules through Custom Game. Aside from multiplayer features that are a staple of any racing game, it will also provide a Single Player Mode to act as the tutorial where you can learn the inside out of the gameplay as well as challenge yourself in Time Attack mode.

In the closed beta period, you won’t be able to taste all KartRider: Drift has to offer. However, you can take a look at some of the contents of both paid and free Racing Passes like customization items. If you’re looking for something new (and free) to play with friends, then you should keep an eye on KartRider: Drift. Stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for more gaming and nerd updates.
