The latest addition to the ambitious journey that is No Man’s Sky will be coming soon. Via PlayStation Blog, the Founder of Hello Games Sean Murray said it’s a dramatic overhaul of the online experience (but don’t call it an MMO).

The quick teaser video above really doesn’t tell us much, just the title of the update called Beyond. Before that, we’re given a very quick glimpse of a character, ship, and what appears to be a landing pad or port inside a spaceship a-la Star Wars.

Where we do get the details, however, is with No Man’s Sky’s Sean Murray in the body of the post:

Murray goes on to say that Beyond is largely a response to 2018’s NEXT update. Last year’s update expanded much of what the game had to offer and what players could do with No Man’s Sky with a multiplayer 4-player element and large base improvements.

No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. While this brings people together like never before, and has many recognizable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO — it won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players.”

Initially, Hello Games and Murray said the expectation of an MMO-esque experience with the game was incorrect. But by the sounds of it, the No Man’s Sky Online and Beyond update could be exactly what fans have been clamoring for all along. Time will tell, but it looks like the team behind the game remains passionate and committed to making No Man’s Sky the best it can be.

The No Man’s Sky Beyond update launches Summer 2019.
