TBS has bought the rights to the Freddie Highmore-written dark comedy, Homesick. According to Deadline, the show is in early development with Highmore also serving as executive producer.

James Mitchell will join Highmore as co-writer and executive producer on the project. Homesick comes from Sony Pictures TV and Highmore’s Alfresco Pictures.

What’s Homesick About?

Here’s a quick synopsis of Homesick, via the Deadline article:

The narrative will be based on Mitchell’s own experiences. But, will the comedy undersell the potential thematic gold mine available? It’s hard to tell. Some of the best comedies out there balance hefty themes with smart humor. Homesick could indeed be one of them.

Highmore is a talent to be reckoned with in front of the camera. With a transformation that took him from the realm of child-stardom to a formidable talent in shows like Bates Motel and The Good Doctor, it will be interesting to see if his focus on the pen will be as strong as his performances.

Freddie Highmore has written and directed episodes of his other shows, which suggests he will do a solid job in delivering this project with James Mitchell.
