Frank West has been a character that fans have loved since the original Dead Rising launched 10 years ago, being a goofy-yet-endearing character that has “covered wars, ya know.” When news broke that the beloved character would be returning for the 4th entry in the series, fans were thrilled to have the character back in zombie-busting action.
However, shortly after the Dead Rising 4 reveal fans began to notice that Frank West sounded different, and that’s because his original voice actor was replaced. T.J. Rotolo was the original voice actor for Frank West, though Capcom did not ask him to return for this new installment in the series.
Dead Rising Asset Manager Trant Lee-Aimes recently did a fan Q&A where he was asked why T.J. Rotolo wasn’t requested back, and he replied with the following:
“We wanted to work with someone to provide a more grizzled, older take on Frank at this stage. It’s no disrespect to history or previous actors–TJ has done a bang-up job.”
This is a move that has already bothered lots of Dead Rising fans, especially considering the fact that the footage shown so far does not convey Frank West as a “more grizzled” or “older” person at all. Hopefully things work out when the game launches in December, but changing the voice actors of beloved characters is a move that almost never pans out well.
Dead Rising 4 will launch for Xbox One on December 6th.
