Francis Ford Coppola begins shooting Megalopolis, his star-studded dream project, after years of struggles to get it moving. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the film will start shooting in Georgia this November to March 2023. The filmmaker is shooting in Fayetteville at Trilith Studios.

The film will have a strong cast attached to the legendary filmmaker’s dream project, which was initially unveiled the cast last May by The Hollywood Reporter. Adam Driver is set in a leading role. With him will be Forest Whitaker, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones).

As Francis Ford Coppola tried getting Megalopolis off the ground in the 80s, he is finally getting the ball rolling. The filmmaker will self-finance the project with a budget of just shy of $100 million. He will serve as director and writer for the film that centers around an architect who tries to rebuild New York City after a disaster devastates the city.

Francis Ford Coppola gears up for Megalopolis

While details are known, some question marks surround Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola. Oscar Isaac, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Zendaya were in negotiations for the film, but it is uncertain if any of them will star. Before his death, James Caan was in talks for the film too.

Over the decades, many things have happened to keep the film in development hell. For one, in 2001, work began on Megalopolis as Francis Ford Coppola was shooting 30 hours of second-unit footage. Then, when the September 11 attacks happened, it stopped production and delayed the film. Now, just over 20 years later, the film should be done by next year. With it being in pre-production until it shifts to production in November, no release date has been set. The ambitious film will take time, so fans must be patient for a few more years.
