X-Men, the series that began the superhero movie craze, will come to an end this June with Dark Phoenix. Fox, who just went through a merger with Disney, dropped the final trailer for Dark Phoenix earlier today. After nearly two decades, Fox’s long-spanning saga about Wolverine (oh and the others) is coming to a close.
Jean Grey is fused with one of the most destructive forces in the universe, The Phoenix. Now, her fellow teammates must fight (probably kill) her or face the end of existence.
Disney finalized its acquisition of 21st Century Fox and its properties last month. This means franchises such as X-Men, Deadpool and more are going back under the Marvel banner. As a result, the delayed New Mutants and Dark Phoenix will be the last hurrah in Fox’s X-universe.
The last film, X-Men: Apocalypse, was critically panned and the lowest grossing X-film of the last 6 years.
The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the most notorious stories in X-Men history. It came to the big screen with X-Men 3: The Last Stand (2006), but we don’t talk about that. This is the second and likely last go for a while at doing the story justice.
Comic fans have a hate or love it view regarding Scott and Jean’s off-and-on relationship. Mostly, because of the whole she keeps dying thing. Doesn’t everyone hate when their girl dies and returns out of nowhere? Even when it comes to death, women can’t make up their mind.
The Last Stand
If I had a nickel for every time The Pheonix died and returned, I would have enough to buy up everything like Dinsey.
So far, a few of the upcoming Phase 4 MCU films are known and have release windows. These movies include Spider-Man: Far From Home, Black Panther 2, Black Widow, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Marvel is being tight-lipped on the remainder of their Phase 4 lineup, including their future X-Men films.
This may be it for this version of the mutants, but like Phoenix, they will rise again. Dark Phoenix is scheduled for release on June 7th.
