Forza Motorsport 5 is a brilliant racing game that is held back by a poor monetization strategy. That was the gist of the Forza 5 review we recently wrote, and apparently, we weren’t the only ones to think that the game’s prevalence of micro-transactions and grindy progression were a big issue.
It appears that Microsoft and Turn 10 are responding to this feedback, and will be changing some things about the game.
“Based on the numbers we’ve seen from our first week of FM5, as well as feedback we heard directly from you, we’re in the process of making some changes to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy,” reads a recent post on the game’s community blog.
So what exactly will they be changing? In the short term, Turn 10 will be offering players discounts to buy cars. This means that when you purchase vehicles with either credits or the token currency, everything is 50% off. The discount applies only between Nov. 29th and Dec. 1st.
VIP members will get free gifts, and those that purchased the day one DLC will get cars unlocked without having to spend credits on them. Going forward, Turn 10 says that they will be “dramatically increasing the credit payout available to all Forza players in December.”
The post didn’t say what, if any, permanent changes would be made to the game’s economy. We’ll need to keep an eye out for future updates to Turn 10’s racer to see if these things have been changed completely, or just quickly fixed to extinguish the flame of hatred that is currently burning on the game’s forums.
