A brand new NPC has been added to the Fortnite Island. It is the Season 1 skin Wrath and with him comes several new side quest challenges. The first of his challenges tasks players with scanning players with the Recon Scanner. This might be a bit difficult to find, so allow me to help you with that. This guide will show you how to find the Recon Scanner in Fortnite.
Where to Find a Recon Scanner in Fortnite
Before you go looking for the Recon Scanner, you’ll want to start Wrath’s quest. He can be found in Stealthy Stronghold to the north of Pleasant Park. He will be shown on your mini-map as a white speech bubble. Talking to him will begin his series of side quests, which starts with this Recon Scanner mission. You will have to get the weapon and scan two players to complete it. Since the Recon Scanner is an IO weapon, you will not be finding it in regular chests. You will need to search for IO chests which can be found in IO bases. Some of these base locations include one southwest of Pleasant Park, south of Holly Hedges, between Lazy Lake and Corny Crops, and north of Dirty Docks. These chests are not guaranteed to drop the weapon, so keep trying and you will eventually get it. From there you just have to scan enemies and you will complete the challenge.
Once you spot two enemy players with the recon scanner, the challenge will be completed and you will be rewarded 12,000 XP for leveling up your Fortnite Season 8 Battle Pass. The reward for each subsequent challenge in Wrath’s quest increases by 2,000 XP, capping off at 20,000 with the fifth and final challenge. Scanning other players and getting your XP also means you can move on to Wrath’s next challenge: Use a Jump Pad or Jump Vent and travel 100 meters before landing.
