Is there going to be a Fortnite Movie?
Fortnite has become not only one of the biggest games of all time, but it is now stretching into other venues of entertainment as well. Between the constant movie crossovers and now clothing crossovers as well, it seems there is no real end in sight for how far Fortnite can reach. This has become even more evident as the rumor mill is now in action about the possibility of a Fortnite movie coming to fruition. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the creative juices are definitely flowing over at Epic, and with the recent news involving the company, it’s clear something big is in the works.
According to a report by The Information, Epic is hard at work to expand their brand and the possibility of starting an entertainment division is growing by the day. Since it recently had these dreams docked by the restrictions of the Apple and Google Stores, they might be trying to figure out another avenue to expand into.
These rumors are backed up by the fact that Epic has snatched up executives that formerly worked for Lucasfilm and this seems to be a match made in heaven when you consider how successful the Fortnite and Star Wars cross-over events have been throughout the years. The executives hired have extensive experience in the industry and are likely there to start concept building and creative design for what’s to come.
As far as how the Fortnite movie would actually work? Well, there really isn’t any evidence of that just yet, though if we were to speculate, it would most likely be an animated movie. With the recent fascination of the battle royale concept in not only games but TV as well (see Squid Game, Alice in Borderland etc), it would be really easy to see a somewhat light-hearted take on this come to fruition in movie form.
What might be difficult with a movie of this magnitude though is nailing the tone. After all, Fortnite is ultimately about killing other players so that you’re the last one standing. We’ve seen how brutal this can play out in movies like Hunger Games and Battle Royale, so how would it translate to animation while keeping it kid-friendly for a wide audience? That will be the biggest balancing act to pull off eventually, so we’ll be monitoring the situation as it unfolds.
