As Fortnite’s Chapter three, Season two continues, more weekly, seasonal challenges continue to release. While the last few tasks have asked you to destroy turrets and structures, various quests are still to come. Week 8 asks you to use the Sensor Backpack to find energy fluctuations near Loot Lake. This guide will teach you how to use the Sensor Backpack to find energy fluctuations in Fortnite.

How to Use the Sensor Backpack in Fortnite

Before you can use the Sensor Backpack, you’ll have to find it. Upon finding a backpack, interact with it to equip it. There are two different spots where you can find the Sensor Backpack:

  • West of Tilted Towers, to the left of the three-way intersection. You’ll find the backpack surrounded by nearby trees, grass patches and bushes. If you are familiar with the Stormtrooper checkpoints, the Sensor Backpack is northeast of the Greasy Grove point.
  • South of Tilted Towers, near the Rocky Rebels bridge. Similarly, you’ll also find this backpack surrounded by trees and grass patches.

Once you find and equip your Sensor Backpack, you can use it to find energy fluctuations near Loot Lake. With your Sensor Backpack equipped, head north of Tilted Towers and look for orange energy waves. Your backpack will make beeping noises as you travel around the area, indicating how close or far you are from the energy fluctuations. However, there are no set, exact locations for where to find the energy fluctuations. Instead, it is randomized for each player, and you must venture around Loot Lake until you find the energy waves.

Once you find one, approach the floating, orange energy waves to find a “Scan Energy Fluctuation” option. Interact with it to scan the waves and complete the quest. If another player kills you before you finish scanning, you’ll have to join another match and repeat the process.

Fortnite is available on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Android, and iOS platforms.
