In collaboration with Ryan Reynolds’ new movie Free Guy, Fortnite is adding a Good Guy Emote that players can earn by completing new in-game quests. Some of these quests are fairly simple to complete, such as “Talk with any NPC” or “Reboot or revive teammates.” However, one task in particular — “Take melee damage” — may stump a few players. Fortnite combat is primarily gun-based, so getting an opposing player to attack via melee may sound complicated. Read on to learn how to take melee damage to unlock the Good Guy Emote in Fortnite.
How to Take Melee Damage in Fortnite
To take melee damage in Fortnite, land close to opposing players after exiting the Battle Bus. Initiate a melee fight with another player by taking a swing at them with the default Harvesting Tool. As a result, the opposing player will retaliate with a melee attack, completing the Fortnite quest needed for the Good Guy Emote.
During the initial moments of a battle royale match, Fortnite players will only have their default pickaxe equipped as a viable weapon. For this reason, getting opponents to melee attack the player with their pickaxe is the best and safest option for completing the “Take melee damage” quest. Keep in mind that players will only need to get hit once to fulfill the task.
Here is a quick list of the rest of the Free Guy quests needed to unlock the Good Guy Emote.
- Get hit by a moving vehicle
- Place coins around the map x 3
- Reboot or revive teammates, or interact with campfires
- Talk with any NPC
The Good Guy Emote in Fortnite will only be unlockable for free until September 6. So be sure to complete the necessary quests before then.
Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
