Hacking and cheating aren’t unheard of in video games. That’s why Epic Games uses two-factor authentication (2FA) in Fortnite to support greater account security. What’s more, they’re even offering a bit of an incentive for users that enable it. So, we’ll walk you through the steps you need to take to activate it.

How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication in Fortnite

Account security isn’t just an issue when it comes to Fortnite or even the video game world. This expands to anything you do on the internet, from banking to work. So, it’s no surprise if you’ve heard of two-factor authentication before.

For those of you who don’t know, two-factor authentication makes your account more secure. With it enabled, hackers will have a tough time gaining access to your account.

So, how do you enable two-factor authentication in Fortnite? Well, it’s a quick process that starts with going to your Epic Games account. We’ll list out the steps below:

  • On the official Epic Games website, sign in to your account.
  • Hover over your username and select “Account.”
  • Click on “Password & Security.”
  • From there, scroll down to “Two-Factor Authentication.”

You have three options for the type of account security you want with Fortnite’s two-factor authentication: SMS, email, or an authenticator app.

For SMS Authentication, you will choose your country code, type in your mobile number, and select “Send Code.” You’ll soon receive said code to your phone via text (SMS), and from there, enter the code in your browser to activate 2FA.

With Email Authentication, a verification code is sent to your address for Epic Games. When you get the message, enter the code to enable 2FA.

Lastly, you can enable two-factor authentication in Fortnite using an Authenticator App. Through your phone’s app store, download and install the authenticator app. Once installed, open it, scan the QR code, and a verification code will pop up. Simply enter this code in a browser to get to the page to activate 2FA.

Once you’ve completed your authentication, you will receive a thank-you gift from Epic Games in the form of a Boogiedown Emote. That and, of course, two-factor authentication gives some good peace of mind for enjoying Fortnite with beefed-up account security.

Fortnite is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo, PC, iOS, and Android.
