Secure your account.
With Fortnite being the global phenomenon that it is, account security should be a high priority for all Fortnite players, which is why everyone should enable Two-Factor Authentication or 2FA. This adds an extra layer of security to your account, preventing any would-be hackers from gaining access to your personal information and your Epic Account. It requires a second form of identity verification every time you log in, typically in the form of a code sent to your email.
Fortnite players are incentivized to enable Two-Factor Authentication because in-game competitive events require that entrants activate 2FA on their account. In addition, players finding themselves in a generous mood will also need 2FA active to send gifts to other players. There’s even an exclusive emote just for opting in.
How to Enable 2FA in Fortnite
To enable 2FA in Fortnite, you must first log into your Epic Games account. Once you’re logged in, open hover over your username in the top right corner of the screen and select Account. Navigate to the Password and Security tab and scroll down to the Two-Factor Authentication section at the bottom of the page.
Once you scroll down, you’ll choose between an Authenticator App or Email Authentication. The first option requires you to use a particular app like Google Authenticator or Authy, which you can download on a mobile device every time you log in. The second option will send an email to the email address associated with your Epic Games account every time you log in.
We recommend selecting Email Authentication, but you can choose whichever option works best for you. Having Two-Factor Authentication activated is all that matters, as account security should be taken very seriously — especially if your account contains payment information.
Fortnite 2FA Rewards
As a reward for enabling Two-Factor Authentication, players will receive the free and exclusive Boogie Down Emote. Fortnite: Save The World players will also receive 50 Armory Slots, 10 Backpack Slots, and a Legendary Troll Stash Llama. It may take some time, and possibly a game restart, to receive these in-game rewards.
Why Can’t I Enable 2FA in Fortnite?
Fortnite players under the age of thirteen (or the equivalent age of digital consent in their region) may find themselves unable to active 2FA on their account. To protect younger players, Epic Games prevents them from accessing certain areas of the Epic Games services and games. You can read more about “Cabined Accounts” on Epic Games’ official website.
Fortnite is available to play for free on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, and PC.
