A surprise announcement has been made amidst the legal drama between Apple and Fortnite developer Epic Games. It has been speculated that Fortnite would not return to iOS for quite some time, with some estimates stating it might be longer than five years. However, Fortnite might make its way back to iOS devices via a different means: GeForce Now.
On Jan. 13, 2022, Nvidia announced via their official blog that they will add Fortnite to the game streaming service, and that the Closed Beta will be available as soon as next week. There is currently no exact date on when it will start, but there is an open registration for the beta available.
GeForce Now is a game streaming service that provides real-time gameplay to players. It can be installed on iOS systems, which means any game available on GeForce Now will be available to iOS users.
There is no speculation yet on what kind of relationship will form between Nvidia and Apple, as this could be viewed as undermining the company’s decision to block the Fortnite app from the platform. However, given that it (probably) is not in direct conflict with any terms of service for iOS or Apple, it seems like Epic Games might have netted a small victory in their legal dispute with the technology giant.
